ZooScope accepts three kinds of submission: Film Data; Full Archive and ZooScope Zoom. Submissions must follow the guidelines below. When you make a submission via the website it will be passed to the archive editors who will review the submission and then either a) edit and publish it or b) discuss the submission with the author.

Guidelines for submission

Film Data
Entries involve no text submission and should provide the required data for cataloguing your entry in the database. Other users may propose upgrading a Film Data entry to a Full Archive entry.
  1. Submissions are required to provide full archiving information in the following fields:
    1. kinds of animal(s) on screen;
    2. mode(s) of human-animal interaction;
    3. film genre.

Full Archive
Entries should be between 1000 and 2000 words, and submission should follow these general guidelines
  1. Meet the requirements of the film data entry.
  2. In your text:
  3. Provide a brief synopsis of the film, focusing on animal elements.
  4. Provide an interpretative account of animal presences and/or animal- human interactions in the film.
    1. This may be synoptic and cover all of the animals or may focus on fewer examples more specifically.
  5. Illustrate your article with at least three relevant visual elements; these may be film advertising, embedding an open source trailer; or other public domain images.
  6. All cited material must be referenced with numbered endnotes. ZooScope follows the MHRA Styleguide ( http://www.mhra.org.uk/series/MSG )
  7. Provide a bibliography.

  8. Submit an Article
ZooScope Zoom
Entries should be between 300 and 600 words.
  1. Meet the requirements of the film data entry.
  2. In your text:
  3. Provide an interpretative account of one or two significant moments of animal presence and/or animal-human interactions in the film.
  4. Illustrate your article with at least one relevant visual elements; this may be film advertising, embedding an open source trailer; or another public domain image.
  5. All cited material must be referenced with numbered endnotes. ZooScope follows the MHRA Styleguide ( http://www.mhra.org.uk/series/MSG )
  6. Provide a bibliography, if necessary.
